Kelly- 7 Dots-Mixed Media

This layout is based on a fantastic video done by the wonderful Gabrielle Pollaco to see her video and canvas you can find her here http://gabriellepollacco.blogspot.ca/
I was in the mood to try something different and wanted to get a better feel for mixed media and this was my result.
This layout is going into the engagement album for Kelly & Dave friend of the family.
This is what it looked like after I had added my papers, drywall tape, dusty attic, lace and tons of metal bling and doodads! My youngest daughter saw this version and fell in love with it and didn't want me to change it! But I wanted to follow the process through to the end so I painted all the embellishments with Gesso and got this:
Once done I started misting it. I used five different colors and for the first time I will say it came out okay (need to practice). The next step was to add gesso to all the raised peaks on the layout which are most of the embellishments. Here are a few close-ups of the various sections of the page:
The doves and branch were meant to symbolize love and peace for their up coming marriage.
Highlighting the future bride's name.
The lace really did make the page!
There was masking with moulding paste and you can see the drywall tape in the middle. I am now addicted to the stuff!
Top left again more lace with some Pink Paislee Artisan circles and a Prima metal embellishment. This was one project that I really enjoyed trying and I encourage you to do the same. I learned a lot about glues, mists, moulding paste you name it. The more I used it the more comfortable I felt with it. I plan on doing another one soon! A big shout out to Gabi for her endless inspiration!
Well I have two choices, my Ferro came in yesterday so I can finish my advent calendar or I an go help clean up the 100ft tall sugar maple laying in my backyard. HMM yeah calendar it is! Have a great weekend! All the best!

The Kiss-Limited Edition @My Creative Scrapbook

I was happily working away on my advent calendar, got it stained, put together, made all the little boxes go to do the Christmas trees and find out that my bottle of Ferro has dried out completely! :( Damn I was on a roll so in light of that setback I decided to scrap a random picture while I wait for my Ferro to come in the mail (sigh). This is my husband and I on our wedding day sealing our vows with The Kiss. It was a gorgeous ceremony held outside at Inn At the Falls in Bracebridge (a haunted inn in fact!) The weather was just perfect and you can see just a bit of the beauty that is Muskoka in the background of the pic.
I tried using drywall tape for the first time. I have a lot to learn! :) I used various papers from the kit and made a border along the left side of the page. I used Liquid Pearls to add centres to my punched flower border.
My Prima flowers that were included in the kit and some DA in there as well in the leaves around the big flower and the small flourish peeking out from under the blooms.
I had a mishap with my journaling so I had to come up with something that would fit in underneath the title. I used a frame from the Prima Divine collection and some rubons to mark the date of our wedding. The rose is from Dusty Attic (Rose Stem DA0661). I painted it white first then inked it using Tim Holtz inks and pens. I gave it a quick spritz of Gold Shimmer Spritz.
I am having fun experimenting with my masks. This one is from Prima and I used Golden moulding paste. I lightly sprayed it with Pearl Shimmer Mist. I wanted to keep it subtle.

This shows the masking on the top of the page. I tried to make corners with the mask and am still not sure if I am going to maybe add a dab more color to it. Well time is running out for me with this engagement album I've been working on so I am off to do another page of the future bride (while I wait for the Ferro to come in). Enjoy the beautiful day out there but watch out for the sun! Did a few hours of gardening and came in looking like a rock lobster! All the best!

Smile-MCS May Main Kit

It's been a rough patch. I suffered a scrapping setback that made me question my abilities as a scrapbooker. My self-esteem plummted and I was lost in my room for days. Then I reassessed  the big picture. The world is full of amazingly talented scrapbookers and I am but one small fish in a big sea. I needed to go back to why I started scrapping in the first place. I enjoyed spending time with the memories each picture evoked. I enjoyed picking the paper and embellishments and I realized that I needed to go back there. Being on a disability can make scrapping hard because you see all the wonderful new things coming out and you want them all and yet you can't have them. Money only stretches so far. I hope to one day be on a design team both for my ability and because it would allow me to continue without feeling guilty about the cost. But for now I am going to enjoy the benefits of what I do have and I do have alot. So on that note I decided to step back from the challenges and just do my own thing which includes catching up on things that have been put to the side for far too long. With that I took out a kit from MCS I believe from May of this year and did this page of my second grandchild Emily whose smile lights up my life!
The cropping is a bit off because it actually started to rain when I was shooting this sorry about that. Meet Emily a precocious four year old pixie whose smile can light up a room, who has the sweetest voice and at times can be a little devil in disguise :) This is the May Main Kit from MCS (looked it up!)
These papers worked perfectly and the sticker sheet had this cute title that matched the polka dots on Emily's bathing suit.

I stamped out the Sumer time and used my watercolor pencils to fill it in. I did a bit of inking on the background using a Prima mask and stamping using a Prima stamp. I actually stamped then cut it out to make it stand out more. I used Liquid Pearls to add buds in the middle of the flowers.
I found these polka dot flowers in my stash! The butterflys were cut out of the paper from the kit with some Basic Grey embellies.

This quote from Kaisercraft rubons was perfect for this page- "Her smile beams like sunshine, which fills our hearts with LOVE."  Taking my time with things and moving on to my next project which ironically is a Christmas project lol an advent calendar I bought a year ago. Like I said time to catch up! Have a great one!

Moments-My Creative Sketches July

This is my entry for the sketch challenge up this month at My Creative Sketches.
And this was the sketch. . .
Another layout for the engagement album for a friend of the family. I used My Creative Scrapbook's Limited Edition Kit which included the gorgeous papers from Websters Pages Plum Seed Collection. I have been eyeballing these papers for awhile and battling with myself yes get them, no you can't afford them oh but I want them and then ta da they came in my kit! I love karma!

I called the page moments because you can only do so many love, in love etc... pages. The letters are included in the kit and are Thickers. The little hearts in the top corner were from my stash.

I used Dusty Attic's corner Floursih #3 on this layout. I primed the pieces with acrylic paint then inked them using my Tim Hotlz's markers. But that wasn't enough they didn't stand out enough so I inked them with the ink pads of the same color and once dried went over them with matching stickles. You can catch a bit of the sparkle on the brown stem.

I stamped the edge of the layout with a Bo Bunny stamp and white embossing powder. Then I inked from the outer edges in to keep the middle of the layout lighter.
The butterfly (also in the kit) is from Pink Paislee's Cottage Farms collection and made the perfect final touch. I used some bling to add a tail. You can see the masking I did with some Texturez (Tidy Widy) and the little pearls for that little bit of extra color. Also did a little hand stitching around some of the squares to make them stand out more. And that's it! We are heading into the long weekend here in Canada anyways and supposedly some good weather so I plan to work outside in the garden which has been sorely neglected due to the heat then the tornado that hit us and took out neighbor's tree which of course came down in my yard! Now that everything is cleaned up I can get back to my pond and flower beds!
