Lil Angels-Scraps of Elegance

My darling grandaughters. Emily (far left) is 3, Isla (middle) 1 and Lilly (lillybean) 6 . This was taken on Lilly's 6th Birthday. Unfortunately the girls don't get to see each other near enough so when they do get together they make up for lost time! I so love to just sit and watch them play. I used the Scraps of Elegance Kit Lovesong Kit.
I loved this saying, Kaisercraft rub-on, although at times I know for a fact that none of these three are perfect angels!
The big pink flower is from Bo Bunny's Zinnia line (love these!) and the two mixed red flowers I made using paper from the kit and some red bling. The zipper is of course frim Prima's Junkyard Findings line. The little red ones are from Petaloo.
I hand stiched around the circle to help hold the paper down better. The letters are from Dusty Attic Bookman ABC set (DA0666)
I painted the letters first with Pink Lemonade but realized there were too pale so I painted them again with Lisa Pink and then they were too dark! So I used the Smooch ( Shabby Pink) that came in the kit and when over them completely which added a shimmer to them plus gave me the color I wanted!

Well it's Friday which means the hubby will be out all weekend sledding with his brother and I have the house completely to myself which also means I can crank my stereo! Although I might go out with them just once to see if I can capture a great deer shot. They are always telling about the beautiful things they see in the bush but I hate the cold. This might be worth the effort I guess we'll see! Have an awesome weekend and I am off to scrap my brains out! (Have a few albums need doing for upcoming weddings). Have a great one and be well!

Smiles are contagious-My Creative Scrapbook LE

This is a photo of my daughter Rebecca playing smoochies with her niece Emily at Christmas time. They adore one another can you tell? I used the Limited Edition kit from MCS with the Lucille line from Baisc Grey.
Enjoyed adding alot of Dusty Attic to this layout. This is the dress form painted with Pink Lemonade paint. I used some  Websters' netting for the skirt and a ribbon form the kit for a sash. A few Prima flowers finished it off.
Alot of the time I like to incorporate the title onto the chipboard although in this case I realized to late that I should have probably used it to fill in the spaces at the top and bottom of the page. I'm not used to empty (negative space)!
More Dusty Attic Painted with the same Pink Lemonade and then I used distress ink from Tim Holtz in Mahgony to bring out the edges. Prima and Petaloo flowers in the mix.
The birdcage and bird are more Dusty Atttic painted and inked. I used a left over piece of ribbon from a Christmas kit to hang the cage on the page. I wasn't sure I would like these papers when I first saw them but when I had them in my hand that all changed! Well that's it for today I think! Have a great afternoon and thanks for coming by! Be well!

Remember Today- My Creative Scrapbook

I did this layout using the January Main Kit from MCS. I took this photo at Christmas. It was Christmas Eve and we celebrted with a quite dinner in remembrance of my mom their grandma. Megs in the middle is still confined to a wheelchair after suffering a bad fall and we are praying that one day she will walk again!
I love this bird! I used a tip from Jolaine from the design team and added glitter around the bird.
Just a little stamping and I used some liquid pearls.

Sorry just realized that this pic is blurred :( I just added a few drops of the liquid pearls to make the banner stand out more.
That's it for this post. I am feeling wretched from this bug I have (can't you tell by the short posts?) So have a great day and be safe. We are in the middle of yet another blizzard hope things are better where you are! TFL! :)

My Sweetheart-Scrap That Sketch Contest

This is the sketch for this month's challenge at the ScrapThat Kit Club and this is my interpretation of the sketch called My Sweetheart.
This is my grandaughter Lilly taken on her 6th Birthday. It amazes me how quickly time flies. At six she already has her own fashion style, quick wit and is excelling at school. She apparently has an affinity for Math and has an amazing creative style in her artwork! Wonder where she gets that from? :)
All the flowers and leaves are from Prima and the little love lightbulb is from the Ingvild Bolme line Junkyard Findings.
The beautiful butterfly is from Renea Bouquets.
More flowers from Prima mixed in with some plastic flowers I had in my stash forever.
I used American Thickers Natural Chipboard and painted it with white paint and then sprayed it with Tattered Angels Glimmer mist in Blackberry.
The heart below the picture is my first attempt at the eggshell embellishment tutorial I saw on Gabrielle Pollaco's blog  http://gabriellepollacco.blogspot.ca/search?updated-max=2012-09-15T14:09:00-04:00&max-results=10&start=35&by-date=false Mine didn't turn out anywhere near as pretty but it was my first attempt and instead of throwing it out I used it. It's all part of the process of scrapping, LEARNING!
Well that's it for me today. I have alot of catching up to do and am battling a nasty virus I picked up from my girls at the Birthday Party go figure. Be well and take care!

The Show Must Go On : Bo Bunny January Challenge-ScrapThat Soundtrack Challenge

After seeing the challenge criteria for Bo Bunny this month I turned to my youngest daughter and said " What can I be proud of about myself for last year? I did nothing exceptional!" She looked at me stunned and said "Oh mom are you kidding you're still going! You didn't give up after everything that you went through you never gave up!" "I don't know anybody stronger than you." I paused she made me think. True all I wanted to do was crawl into a hole and hide, many days came and went that I didn't want to get out of bed but I did, I remained active mom, super grandma, loving wife best friend and so I decided to do my layout about perseverance and as soon as that thought came into my head so did one of my favourite songs from a band I love which is why I decided to use this layout for the Scrap That Soundtrack layout as well and so I give you The Show Must Go On . . .
The background to the story goes as follows in 2004 my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He had just retired that very week after working an extra five years to build up a bit of a nest egg. The trailer was packed his fishing rod ready to go and the day he was to leave he recieved a call that he had cancer. I moved back home to care for him and he passed quickly after only four months, the disease had ravaged him. I cannot even begin to tell you how hard it is to watch your hero slipaway from you. But that was a long time ago right? Dad passed in September of that year in December of the same year my mom was diagnosed with Mesothelioma (cancer in the lining of her lungs). The first few years passed with occasional trips back home (I live almost 300 miles from Cambridge) where I would stay a week or two and then in 2009 mom had major surgery on her lung and my visits changed to a more permanent residency.
I stayed in Cambridge and went home for a weekend every couple of months. I was exhausted both physically and emotionally. In the last few months of her life I was forced  into a war between myself and the hospital staff. My mother had made her peace with her condition and yet the doctor continued to subject her to invasive procedures that caused her great pain. I raged and ranted and for the most part I would win the battle only to lose the next one. I would be at the hospital  until 2:00 am some days because my mother was afraid to be alone. I went home for a weekend visit (my home) only to get a call on day two that my mom had turned and that I should get back to the hospital ASAP. The doctor had once again performed a procedure against my wishes and in doing so had caused an infection that had overtaken my mom's kidneys. I was livid. I knew as soon as I got to the hospital when they told me what floor and room she had been moved to that this was the end. My sister and brother were already there (ironic, where were they before?) and when I looked at my mom it took everything I had not to break down. It was just my oldest daughter and I in the room late that night when my daughter said to me "mom she wants you to talk to her, you have to tell her she can go." I crawled up on the bed with my mom curled up beside her and whispered into her ear that it was okay she could let go, we would be strong and go on that dad was waiting for her. I laid beside her and rubbed her cheek. Fifteen minutes later she took her last breath and was gone. Part of me went with her.
I made the necessary calls the hardest one being to my daughter Meaghan who was also in the hospital but in another city! Meaghan had fallen a few months earlier on some ice while out apartment hunting. She broke her back and was now confined to a wheelchair with an uncertain future. Meaghan was 26 at the time. We buried my mom that week. I remember holding this beautiful mahogony box in my hands and thinking these are my parents. I am holding my parents in my hands I struggled as I placed them in their crypt part of me just didn't want to let go. I had noticed during the funeral that my life partner John was behaving strangely but was so preoccupied that I didn't really see what was going on until much later. He said he wasn't feeling well and that he was driving the 300 miles home. I stayed behind to start going through my parents things. That night John was admited to hospital after coughing up blood. I packed a bag and raced home to Gravenhurst. It was while in the car on the way home that I got the call ( no I wasn't driving) that they had found a massive tumor in John's lung. After caring for my mom for three years straight I buried her only to have this hit me in less than twenty-four hours.
I had made the decision that January that we would finally tie the knot, make it official after fourteen years and now I was faced with losing my hubby. I thought my head would implode. Everything passed in a blur tests were scheduled an OR date had been set, the house was over run with well wishing relatives who were trying desperately to fit in time with John before the inevitable. John's surgery was scheduled three weeks before our wedding! I remember him being adamant that he did not want to postpone it. And so I planned out this beautiful expensive wedding with the help of my daughter Jessie my heart not really in it. I tried on wedding dresses trying to keep my best game face on even though my heart was beating wildly out of control. John underwent his surgery and laid in the ICU for a week before we got the news that his tumor was benign! Thank God! We still had a wedding scheduled in less than two weeks. John was released from the hospital a week and a half before the wedding toting a new friend, a bottle of oxygen everywhere he went. We were married on a beautiful August day outside in Muskoka with our family and close friends in attendance. I really missed my mom that day.
After John had recovered enough I had to return to Cambridge to pack up my childhood home. That is when the friction between us siblings began. My sister undertook everything with an air of authority ( she is a corporate executive and this is her way) just wanting to throw things out where I fought her wanting to go through everything with care and love. Even mom's ancient sweaters meant the world to me. I bawled my eyes out as I watched them tow my mother's car out of the driveway (even though it was coming home with me). I couldn't understand how so much hard work in life for both my parents had been reduced to this. For weeks I scrubbed and cleaned tried to spend time in each room saying goodbye. The house was sold and I have been unable to drive by it since.
The next battle came with the settling of the estate. I will only say this, that my mother had warned me before her death that I would find myself feeling angry and frustrated and that I would want to walk away and say to hell with it and then she made me promise not to. I asked her what she meant and she simply said "You'll see, there will be problems." I blew this off thinking there was no way that my siblings and I would argue over anything we were far too close for that. I was wrong my mom was right. Needless to say my brother and sister do not speak to one another anymore and that there are no more family Christmas'. I have tried in vain to reconcile this fracture (middle child) but to no avail. Not only did I lose my mom I lost the family unit that went with it.
After that it was simply the fallout of the neglect to my own life that hit me. The garden I had spent 10 years and thousands of dollars growing had been decimated in my long abscence. The financial debt I had incurred from living in one house and supporting another was sizable. But most of all I was lost. For three years straight I was my mother's caregiver. She was gone now so who was I? My health failed as a direct result of overtaxing myself for so long. I wanted to give up but that stubborn little streak in me inherited from my mother kept saying onwards the show must go on and so it did and here I am. I know that this was an incredibly long blog but I really needed to convey how deeply the events of the past two years have affected me so profoundly. I am grateful for what I have now, a wonderful husband who was able to share his wife for three years with her mother without complaint, five great kids and three awesome grandchildren. I am slowly regaining my health and working hard on my goal to maybe one day make a name for myself in the scrapbooking world! :)  And with that ending I give you a few more shots of my layout. . .
I used Bo Bunny's Ambrosia line for its vivid colors ( a gesture to bring the same color back into my life). I made the distressed flowers with the Ambrosia papers and the rose is from Prima. Trinket is Bo Bunny of course.
This is the new Dusty Attic piece Branches and Berries (DA0729). I painted it with antique acrylic paint and once dried used my Tim Holtz markers on it. I found this piece delicate to work with so I used my water pen and the markers to paint it first then went over it again with one or two bold strokes of just the marker. Once dried I painted it with gloss to add the shine and strenghten the piece.
This is Dusty Attic's new Monarch Butterflies (DA0805). I used the same technique with this as the berries. Since my mom's passing I have never seen so many beautiful monarch butterflies in my garden.
More flowers and D.A.
I used the stamp from the Ambrosia line and stamped this image on whitecardstock. I colored it in with my Tim Holtz markers. It is a verse from the song by Queen The Show Must Go On and says "inside my heart is breaking, my make-up maybe flaking but my smile still stays on."
I thank-you for bearing with me through this long winded explaination of my layout. I just felt it held more significance with the background story to it. God Bless you for staying with me and reading it through. Have a terrific weekend! and again thank-you for looking-Pam

Scrap That January Skectch Challenge

This is the January sketch over at Scrap That.
I flipped the sketch horizontally to accomodate my pictures.

This was taken at Christmas. My two youngest grandaughters playing in the snow. Emily (3) is on the left and Isla (1) on the right. We had just finished our big family snowball fight when they decided to take a time out and just plopped themselves in the snow for a break. Talk about adorable.
This was my first time experimenting with modelling paste. I tired to bring out the three snowflakes depicted in the sketch with modelling paste a stamp, some ink and sparkles. I used way too much paste when I lathered it on the page (live and learn right?) and after smoothing it out I took a stamp and stamped an image of a snowflake into the paste. I let it dry then sanded it a bit with sand paper then gently went over the image with a lavender acyrlic paint. once the paint dried I wasn't happy with the effect so I went over the raised ridges with a fine tipped black marker, used some liquid glue and added sparkles. It's hard to see but it definitely brought the images out better.

The big snowflake is actually from Dusty Attics new chipboard and is called Doily #5 (DA0763). I painted it with metallic paint and added a bling in the middle. The surrounding flowers were made using a tutorial from Gabrille Pollaco (distressed flowers) and backed with some petals I had in my stash. Again there is a mix of Prima and Petaloo flowers. The snowflakes have been sitting in my closet forever can't remember where I got them.

I used some basic grey letters and inked them with Stazon Royal Purple ink. You can see the
other two snowflakes better in this pic.
Last photo showing the complete flower line up the side of the page. I added the ZVA bling after using a Tim Holtz marker to color it purple just for fun. Well now that the blogging is done it's off to the home gym for some time on the machines (new years resolution :( )I hope you have a great weekend inspite of this horrid weather! Ugh I hate rain especially in January. TFL!

My Beloved-MCS Creative Sketches

This is the December skecth over at My Creative Sketches.
And this is my interpretation of it.

This is a photo of my friend Andrea and her new daughter Olivia. I used the Domestic Goddess line from 7 Dots, I just love the colors of this line!

I used the new Wall Clock #2 (DA0731) from Dusty Attic. I painted it with Gesso and then lightly went around the edges with Aged Mahogony distress ink from the Tim Holtz line and then brought out the clock arms and numbers with a distress marker in the same color. To enhance the clock I embossed a stamp design underneath and inked the area with the Aged Mahogony.

I used the Decorative Scroll #1 from DA (DA0213) to frame the picture and add the circle element of the sketch. Again I painted it with Gesso and then repainted it with Baby Pink Acyrilic paint. I then gently brought out the edges using a brown chesnut roan ink then stamped it gently using a word punch in black. I had to be careful when inking and painting this piece as the edges become quite fragile when moist.
I used a mixture of Prima and Petaloo flowers to embellish and one of my new favourite things from the Junkyard Findings line a little light bulb saying cute. The little flower stems were bought at the dollar store.
Again more Prima and Petaloo flowers along with the dollar store stem and the adorable little zipper end is from the Ingvild Bolme Junkyard Findings line from Prima aren't they adorable! With this page I was really in the mood to play with paint and inks so I did some background masking using a Prima mask then outlining the masked area with a fine tip black marker. This is the last piece of DA I used called Mini Birds #3 (DA0727) again painted with Gesso and highlighted with some ink. The brads were from my stash and are years old. I also did some embossing on this side using a flower stamp and pink ink just to try to make things more interesting.
And the last picture of the title My Beloved. Are Prima letters placed on a shaped chipboard piece that was also painted and inked. Below it I used a Prima stamp to stamp the word forever on it to bring out the title more. This also shows all the masking I did (went a little crazy but had fun!) That's it fpr this entry hope you enjoyed and TFL!
